Perhaps the most memorable of all of Jablon’s TV design experiences has been working with the crew of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, helping to renovate the homes of some of the most deserving families across the US. Each show follows famed TV carpenter Ty Pennington as he leads a team of designers who together transform modest and run-down homes into designer living spaces.
For each show families are chosen based on need and merit: in one instance a family member’s sudden death leads to financial desperation; in another, the adoption of disabled children leaves parents in dire need of handicap-friendly quarters. Reaching out to the most deserving families, homes are given additions, fitted with top quality appliances, and outfitted with the most beautiful, funky, and fun paints and fabrics. Combining community service with outrageous home design makes the show one of the most interesting and proactive on network TV.
Susan Jablon helped with a variety of projects for various episodes of Home Edition. For a house
being updated and expanded to better accommodate a family of 12, Susan helped renovate 4 gigantic bathrooms. Her beautiful glass tiles, installed in bold orange, purple, and white stripes, were the perfect choice for spaces that needed to look great, but still have the durability to stand up to above-average wear. In addition, Susan created blends to tile the surfaces of an outdoor fire pit and family dining table. These less traditional installations gave the home the designer touch that could only be achieved using Susan Jablon’s beautiful glass tile blends.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs weekly on ABC. Check local listings for more information or visit the show's web site.
