Susan Jablon had only been creating glass tile blends a few years when she received a call from TLC’s up and coming interior design show, Trading Spaces. At the time design programs were just breaking ground and networks that aired them (mainly TLC and HGTV) were unknowingly creating a new phenomenon. Riding the ‘reality TV’ wave, producers created hip new shows that combined the spontaneity of working with everyday people with the fun and interest of traditional home remodeling programs. Trading Spaces made the biggest splash in the new category of shows and it was during its early popularity that producers first contacted Susan Jablon.

Though glass tiles had been around for centuries, custom tile blends were hard to come by and Susan Jablon’s beautifully artistic combinations stood out in the market. A few years ahead of her time, Susan was gaining recognition as a premier tile designer. Her beautiful blends—available at comparatively low prices—made her a perfect choice for the “fun design on a budget” mantra of Trading Spaces.

Always up for a challenge and eager to showcase her designs to millions of viewers, Susan jumped at the chance to work with the Trading Spaces crew. Working with designers and homeowners’ neighbors, Susan created blends for kitchens and bathrooms that appeared on multiple shows. And while her tiles spoke for themselves, Susan’s innovative design and outstanding customer service helped her create relationships with TV designers and producers that put her ‘on the circuit’ and ensured that their calls would keep coming.

Susan Jablon Mosaics, all customers, whether TV producers or homeowners overseas, are regarded with the same dedication and attentiveness, there was, nonetheless, an undeniable thrill of getting involved with Trading Spaces and more importantly, a feeling of excitement that came from of being a part of a new phenomenon in television.
